INTRODUCTION:

Uganda is one of the most populous countries in the world. The Sports craze in Uganda is both exciting and exhilarating to say the least and anyone who goes for any of Uganda`s sporting events will certainly be taken by surprise.  It is located in East Africa and is bordered by Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Uganda has embraced a number of sports such as baseball, cricket, tennis, golf, swimming, cycling, and boxing. Uganda also occupies a significant part of Lake Victoria which they share with neighbors Kenya and Tanzania. This has also spawned a growing interest in sailing. Cricket and rugby also attract large numbers of spectators. Boxing offers a national trophy in each division, and also is popular. Uganda sends athletes to the world’s main sporting events, especially the Olympics, and its athletes have won medals, mostly in track-and-field.

But when it comes to sheer popularity, football / soccer is the most popular sport and the main spectator entertainment followed closely by rugby and basketball. With a national league and yearly playoffs, their national football team, called “The Uganda Cranes” have taken the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Cup a staggering 13 times. The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Cup is the oldest of all the football tournaments in the whole of Africa. Uganda`s National rugby team is also recognized as one of the strongest in the region and their national basketball team, called ‘The Silverbacks’ made its debut in the FIBA Africa Championship in 2015.

Visiting Uganda and you do not visit any of the country`s sporting activities is surely a bummer.
